Hawthorn University presents Master of Science in Health and Nutrition Education (MHNE) program graduate Laurie Ellis (2015) for the All About Alumni presentation Helping Youth Achieve a Healthy Weight with Holistic Nutrition. Join Laurie and learn how she blended holistic nutrition into her nursing career to develop an effective pediatric weight management program. Find out how this program became adopted as a state wide obesity treatment program in Wyoming, and how Laurie plans to help other rural states utilize the program.

Laurie Ellis is a health and nutrition educator. She earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing at the University of Wyoming and recently earned a master’s degree in health and nutrition education from Hawthorn University. Laurie has twenty-six years of experience as a health educator. Fifteen of these years have been working with the pediatric population.

Laurie has enjoyed a wide variety of accomplishments during her twenty-six year career as a health educator. She has developed a variety of disease management programs, and health and wellness programs.

Laurie is becoming a leader in the field of childhood obesity and promotion of healthy weight children in Wyoming. She first worked with teens who had weight related health issues in the late 1980’s. Since then she has developed several programs that helps youth attain a healthier weight and/or promote a healthy weight.
