Hawthorn University to Close on December 15, 2021

After an extensive analysis and thoughtful deliberation, the Hawthorn University Board of Governors is announcing that the University will cease operations by the end of 2021. Hawthorn University has reached a teach-out agreement with American College of Healthcare Sciences which has been approved by the Distance Education Accrediting Commission.

Although closing the University was a hard and difficult decision Hawthorn University has entered into a collaborative and supportive agreement with the American College of Healthcare Sciences (ACHS), www.achs.edu , to continue our mission of accredited online integrative health and holistic nutrition education. We feel confident in recommending them to carry on our legacy and to meet the students’ educational needs. Their supportive, and open-door philosophy are aligned with Hawthorn, and we feel positive about leaving students in their professional and caring hands.

Hawthorn University will voluntarily withdraw from DEAC accreditation effective December 31, 2021. Students will receive support throughout this transition as Hawthorn will work with students to complete their degree or certificate by 12/15/2021 or transfer and complete their program at American College of Health Sciences.

The advantages of ACHS are listed below.

  • ACHS is accredited by the Distance Education Accrediting Commission (DEAC).
  • ACHS is authorized to enroll students from all 50 states.
  • ACHS has dedicated admissions advisors to support you through the application process.
  • ACHS will waive the registration fee for those who are accepted for admission and register by September 15, 2021.
  • ACHS offers Federal Financial Aid and Military Education Benefits to those that qualify.
  • ACHS accepts transfer of credit from accredited institutions so please remember to let your ACHS advisor know if you have earned credits from Hawthorn or another institution so they can assist you in maximizing your education and experience.
